UNSUNG HEROES TOUR (GRADES 6-12)
The primary goal of this tour is to provide a personalized perspective on war that encourages students to remember the day-to-day hardships of the common soldier from Alabama in the 20th century. Through stories, photographs, and other materials, students become aware of individual struggles and sacrifices soldiers and private citizens made during various wars in which Alabamians have been involved.
In addition to addressing soldiers' experiences, the docent explains the social consequences of war. The "war effort" as a social phenomenon is discussed with particular reference to women's participation on the "home front" and "war front."
A secondary objective of this tour is to encourage the use of
primary sources and stimulate an interest in historical research.
